
Ray Burns (CFI, A-Cat)
Ray has been flying since 1991 and the holder of a Gold-C. He bought is
much loved vintage Ka6CR in 1995 and flies it whenever he can. Ray is a A-Cat instructor, Instructor Trainer, Tow Pilot and the CFI of the club. Ray is also the YouthGlide treasurer.

Lionel Page (Deputy CFI, A-Cat)
Lionel is easily recognised by his South African accent and is a popular
A-Cat instructor. He is also an experienced skydiver. Lionel’s accountancy skills are a great asset to the club having
been the Treasurer and still assisting in this aspect.

Peter Thorpe (A-Cat)
Peter has been gliding since the early 70’s and instructing for almost as long. Vastly experienced, Peter provides a strong focus on club safety without stilting adventure. Peter is an A-Cat Instructor and Aerobatics instructor and Chief Tow Pilot.

Andrew Fletcher (B-Cat)
Andrew has been flying gliders for over 20 years. With many hundred parachute
drops and a working career as an Air New Zealand Captain, Andrew brings
a wealth of flying experience and knowledge to our team. A

Steve Wallace (B-Cat)
Steve commenced gliding in 1989 and is one of our club’s more experienced cross country and competition pilots. Steve has been both a Regional and two time National Champion flying in the Club Class. Steve represented New Zealand at the World Championships in Lesno, Poland in 2014.

Ivor Woodfield (B-Cat)
Ivor has been flying gliders in NZ since late 2004, and prior to that also flew hang-gliders and paragliders in Europe and the UK. He is currently part owner of a Libelle glider, which is based at Whenuapai and gets flown regularly.

Isabelle Burr (B-Cat)
Isabelle (Empress of Gliding, Queen of the skies) is Pilot Officer in No. 3 Squadron Air Training Corps. She
has been flying gliders since she was 14 and has recently also started flying
solo in power aircraft. She has gliding Silver C.

Alex Michael (C-Cat)
Alex has been hooked on gliding ever since his first trial flight in 2020. He is the proud part owner of a Glasflügel Mosqutio and is a keen cross-country pilot. Alex is currently a C-Cat gliding instructor.

Craig Best (C-Cat)
Craig is a glider engineer and enthusiastic cross country pilot who flies his beloved Mosqutio whenever he can. He has recently started getting into competition flying and looks forward to the many adventures it entails.
David Todd (C-Cat)
David is an experienced cross-country and competition pilot who has flown all across New Zealand. He is back to instructing after a 10 year hiatus and is eager to share his valuable knowledge with students.
