a new training glider FOR THE NEXT 30 YEARS

Who We Are
Since 1967, the RNZAF Base Auckland Aviation Sports Club gliding section has introduced generations of Aucklanders to aviation. Run entirely by passionate volunteers, we provide high-quality flight instruction to both service members and the public at no cost. We pass down a culture of excellence in airmanship, safety, and service — qualities that stay with our students for life.
Community Impact

Each weekend, volunteer instructors donate their time to teach people of all ages and backgrounds how to fly gliders. We proudly support the New Zealand Air Training Corps by providing free flight instruction to cadets as young as 12. The confidence these young aviators gain from learning to fly leaves a visible trace, inspiring many of them to have careers in aviation.

Why We Need Support

Our two-seat training glider is essential for delivering instruction. After decades of service, it is reaching the end of its operational life. Without replacement, our ability to train new pilots and support youth aviation programmes is at risk. A new glider would serve the community for the next 30 years.

How Funding Will Help

Because of RNZAF administrative restrictions, our club cannot directly finance major equipment purchases. To solve this, North Auckland Gliding Club was established as an incorporated society dedicated to fundraising and asset ownership. The new glider would be acquired through this structure and leased to Auckland Aviation Sports Club.

The total cost of a replacement glider is approximately $200,000. With many small donations, our members have already raised $7,000 — demonstrating strong internal commitment. We are seeking community trust support to help close the gap and secure the future of the club.

With your support, we can continue providing life-changing aviation experiences to Auckland’s youth and community for decades more to come.
